1. Die-Making
The appearance of gift boxes emphasizes beauty, so the die colors are often varied. Typically, a single style of gift box will use four basic colors along with several spot colors, such as gold and silver, to enhance visual appeal.
2. Paper Selection
Gift box packaging is usually made from double-coated and matte-coated paper, with common weights of 128g, 105g, and 157g. It is rare to use paper over 200g, as thicker paper can cause the finished box to bubble and look rigid. The paperboard is selected based on customer needs, commonly using grayboard paper or gray card.
3. Printing Requirements
The packaging paper for the gift box is printed, while the mounting paper is typically not printed, at most being dyed. Since the gift box serves as outer packaging, printing quality requirements are high, particularly avoiding color discrepancies, ink spots, and other defects that affect aesthetics.
4. Surface Treatment
The packaging paper of the gift box usually undergoes surface treatment, with common methods including gloss coating, matte coating, UV treatment, and varnishing.
5. Die-Cutting
Die-cutting is a crucial step in the printing process. To ensure accurate die-cutting, the die must be made precisely. If the die-cutting is incorrect—such as misalignment or incomplete cuts—it can affect subsequent processing and the quality of the final product.
6. Mounting
Typically, printed materials are mounted before die-cutting, but for gift boxes, die-cutting is done first. This approach prevents damage to the packaging paper and enhances the overall aesthetic. The mounting of the gift box paper is usually done manually to ensure a certain level of beauty.
7. Quality Inspection and Delivery
Finally, all components are assembled to ensure completeness. After assembly, any excess glue on the surface is wiped off to ensure a clean finish. The gift boxes are then packed and prepared for delivery.
Each exquisite gift box may seem like just a packaging design, but its function and significance can sometimes surpass the gift itself. These boxes not only protect the product but also enhance its overall value and experience.
